Privacy policy
Your reading stays on your shelf.
The short version
Guided Word Anchors doesn’t send your data anywhere.
Everything the extension does happens inside your browser. The developer runs no servers that receive data from the extension, and nothing you read, type or visit is collected, sold or shared. The only exception is the optional Amazon support feature: if you turn it on, an affiliate tag is added to some amazon.com product page addresses, and Amazon sees that tag the same way it sees any affiliate link.
- Processed locallyPage text is restyled right on the page you’re reading. It’s never stored or sent.
- No analytics, trackers or adsNo accounts, no remote code and nothing quietly watching what you read.
- Optional, honest supportAmazon support is your choice on the welcome screen, and you can turn it off anytime in the popup.
1.Who we are
Guided Word Anchors (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension published by the developer at Geek By Choice (“we,” “us”). It adds adjustable bold reading anchors to webpage text and offers optional text colors and paced words-per-minute auto-scroll. This policy explains what information the extension handles, why, where it is kept and the choices you have.
2.Information the extension handles
The Chrome Web Store asks extensions to disclose all user data they handle, even data that never leaves your device. Here is everything Guided Word Anchors handles:
Website content
- What
- The visible text of webpages you open.
- Why
- To add reading anchors (bold word beginnings), apply your optional colors and measure text density for auto-scroll.
- Where
- Processed in memory on the page itself. It is never saved, logged or transmitted.
- Kept
- Not kept. It is discarded when you leave or reload the page.
Web addresses you choose to save
- What
- The website name or page address, saved only when you use “Disable on this website,” “Disable on this page” or save colors for a page or website.
- Why
- So your choice is applied again the next time you visit that page or website.
- Where
- Chrome’s extension storage (
chrome.storage.sync). If Chrome Sync is on, Chrome syncs these settings between your own signed-in browsers through your Google account, under Google’s privacy policy. - Kept
- Until you remove the choice in the popup or uninstall the extension.
Your settings
- What
- Anchor ratio and weights, the short-word option, colors, auto-scroll speed and options, whether you finished the welcome screen and whether Amazon support is on.
- Why
- To remember how you like the extension to work.
- Where
- Chrome’s extension storage (
chrome.storage.sync), synced by Chrome as described above. - Kept
- Until you change them or uninstall the extension.
Amazon support dates
- What
- Only if Amazon support is on: the calendar dates (for example, 2026-10-04) on which the affiliate tag was added. No product, page, price or purchase information is recorded.
- Why
- To enforce the feature’s limits: at most once a day, never two days in a row and no more than three days a week.
- Where
- Chrome’s local extension storage (
chrome.storage.local) on this device only. It is not synced. - Kept
- Only the last 14 days are kept. Older dates are deleted automatically.
The extension does not collect names, email addresses, account details, passwords, payment or financial information, health information, location, personal communications, keystrokes, mouse movements, or a history of the sites you browse beyond the specific addresses you choose to save as described above.
3.How information is used
Information is used only to provide the extension’s features described above: reading anchors, text colors, auto-scroll, your on/off choices and, if you choose it, Amazon support. It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics, personalization beyond your own settings, or any purpose unrelated to these features, and it is never used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
5.Optional Amazon support
Amazon support is off until you choose it on the welcome screen that opens when the extension is installed. The welcome screen explains the feature before you choose, and you can accept it or leave it unchecked.
When it is on, the extension adds the developer’s Amazon Associates tag (tag=supportguidedwordanchors-20) to the address of an amazon.com product page, so the developer may earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Your price does not change.
- It is used at most once a day, never two days in a row and no more than three days in any seven-day period.
- It only applies to amazon.com product pages, and it never replaces a tag that is already on a page.
- It shows nothing on Amazon pages. While a tagged page is open, a small “THX” badge appears on the extension icon.
- You can turn it off anytime in the extension popup under Thanks for your Amazon Affiliate Support, or review your choice with Show welcome screen again.
As an Amazon Associate, the developer may earn from qualifying purchases when the optional support feature is turned on.
6.Browser permissions and why they’re needed
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Access to websites | Adding reading anchors to the text of any webpage you read. Text is restyled locally and never stored or sent. |
storage | Saving your settings, the addresses you choose to disable or color and the Amazon support dates. |
tabs | Reading the current tab’s address for “Disable on this website/page” and per-page colors, sending changed settings to open tabs, opening the welcome screen and showing the THX badge. |
alarms | One check just after midnight to apply the Amazon support daily limit. |
declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess | Adding the affiliate tag to amazon.com product page addresses when Amazon support is on. No other sites or requests are affected. |
7.Security
All of the extension’s code is included in the package reviewed by the Chrome Web Store. It loads no remote code and makes no network requests of its own. Your information stays in Chrome’s built-in extension storage, protected by Chrome and, if you use Chrome Sync, by your Google account. Requests to Amazon use Amazon’s own secure (HTTPS) pages.
8.Your choices and deleting your data
- Turn the reading anchors off everywhere, on one website or on one page in the extension popup.
- Remove saved colors with Remove colors for this scope, and clear per-site choices by unchecking them in the popup.
- Turn Amazon support off in the popup at any time.
- Turn Chrome Sync on or off for extensions in Chrome’s settings.
- Uninstalling the extension deletes all of its stored settings and dates from your browser.
9.Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information handled by Guided Word Anchors complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the extension’s single purpose, is not transferred to third parties except as described in section 4, is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not read by any person.
10.Children’s privacy
Guided Word Anchors does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because the extension does not collect or transmit personal information, it can be used by readers of any age.
11.Changes to this policy
If the extension’s data practices change, this page will be updated before the new version is published, and the effective date above will change. Any change that would collect or share new types of data will require your consent before it takes effect.
