Steadfast Backup Terms of Service
Effective October 29, 2026
These terms explain the rules for using the Steadfast Backup WordPress plugin and its easy Google Drive connection, both offered free by Geek By Choice. They are written to be read, so the short version comes first.
Free, and ours
Free to use. Geek By Choice owns the code, the name and the logo.
Your site, your call
You choose what to back up, where to keep it and when to restore.
Test your backups
The plugin comes with no warranty, so check that backups restore.
Easy Drive can change
The shared Google connection may be limited or ended; your own app keeps working.
1Agreeing to these terms
These terms apply when you download, install or use the Steadfast Backup WordPress plugin, made by Geek By Choice, and when you connect it to Google Drive using the Steadfast Backup Google app. If you do not agree to them, do not use the plugin. They cover only Steadfast Backup, not other pages, stores or services on geekbychoice.com.
2Ownership and license
Steadfast Backup is created and owned by Geek By Choice, which holds the copyright in its code, design, documentation and images. Copyright © 2026 Geek By Choice. All rights not granted by the license below are reserved.
The plugin is offered free under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later, which the WordPress.org Plugin Directory requires. That license is the only permission given to copy, change or share the code. Nothing in these terms takes away a right it gives you, and it gives you no rights to the names or logos.
Steadfast Backup, Geek By Choice and their logos are the names and marks of Geek By Choice. Changed copies may not use them, or be presented as Steadfast Backup or as made, approved or supported by Geek By Choice. The official plugin comes only from WordPress.org and geekbychoice.com.
The plugin includes a few small parts made by others, such as the phpseclib library and the Grandstander font, which remain under their own open licenses.
3Your responsibilities
Steadfast Backup runs on your own site and stores backups where you choose. You are responsible for:
- Your site, its content and the backups you make of it, including having the right to copy and store that content.
- Choosing where backups are kept, keeping at least one copy off your server, and checking that backups restore with Test this backup.
- Keeping your storage passwords, keys and encryption password safe. Encrypted backups cannot be opened without their password, by anyone.
- Deciding when to restore. A restore replaces the files and database tables you choose with the copies in the backup.
- Following the laws that apply to you and the terms of every storage service you connect.
4Storage services from other companies
Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, pCloud, Amazon S3 and the other storage services the plugin supports are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies. Your account with each service, its fees, limits and availability, and how it handles your files are between you and that company. Geek By Choice does not control them and is not responsible for them.
Using Google Drive with Steadfast Backup means you also agree to the Google Terms of Service.
5The easy Google Drive connection
What it is
A free convenience that lets the plugin sign in to Google Drive with a short code, through a Google app registered by Geek By Choice, with no Google Cloud setup on your part.
How it is limited
Because one Google app is shared by every site that uses it, scheduled backups go to each Google Drive storage location once a day. Backups still run as often as you set and stay on your server until then.
It can change
Geek By Choice may change, limit, pause or end the easy connection at any time, for example if Google changes its rules or limits. The plugin keeps working with your own Google app, which has no daily limit.
Fair use
Use it only to back up sites you run. Do not use it to break Google's terms, overload the service or reach data that is not yours.
You can remove the connection at any time, as described in the privacy policy.
6No warranty
Steadfast Backup is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that it is fit for a particular purpose, works without errors, or that any backup is complete or can be restored. This matches the no-warranty terms of the GNU General Public License. Hosts, servers and storage services differ, so test your backups regularly.
7Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Geek By Choice is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using or being unable to use Steadfast Backup or the easy Google Drive connection, including lost data, lost backups, site downtime, lost income or the cost of repairs, even if told such loss was possible. Where the law does not allow liability to be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the plugin.
8Support
Help is offered by email when time allows, with no promised response time. The searchable guide inside the plugin, under Settings, Docs, answers most questions.
9Privacy
The plugin sends nothing to Geek By Choice. How it handles information, including information it receives from Google, is described in the Steadfast Backup Privacy Policy.
10Changes and ending
If these terms change, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Using the plugin after a change means you accept the new terms. You may stop at any time by uninstalling the plugin and removing its access in your storage accounts.
11Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, except where the law of the place you live gives you rights that cannot be waived.
12Contact
Questions about these terms or the plugin are welcome.
